SHOWS LIFE CYCLES, FEEDING HABITS, PROTECTIVE COLORING & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF INSECTS POINTING OUT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TRUE INSECTS & THEIR NEAR RELATIVES. EXPLAINS WAYS TO ENCOURAGE BENEFICIAL INSECTS & COMBAT PESTS. Uses the grasshopper to show the distinguishing characteristics of insects as compared to other animals, and discusses several insect orders. Tells why spiders and centipedes are not insects, and shows examples of complete and incomplete metamorphosis. Explains why insects are so numerous and describes some harmful insects along with various methods of control.
