           NASA Presents: Rediscovery; an Earth Sciences Film Series,
           "Pollution Below." (Meaning below Landsat & Sky Lab). One
           Thanksgiving three families are exposed to the dangers of
           pollution. Kayaker on polluted Potomac, grandfather driving home in
           snow storm caused by pollution, father & son go fishing, but are
           told not to eat the fish they caught, may be poisoned. NASA
           observes weather changes, pollution patterns & toxic spills from
           space with special equipment, Multispectral Scanner (MSS).  Good
           EXT & INT Skylab shots w/ scientists working, weightlessness. Solar
           Flares.  Industry related to water pollution. Photos of pollution
           from space. NOTE: The Tom McEwan is well known, the first person
           ever to run Great Falls (1970s) in a kayak.  Good trippy 70s-type
           titles.

           Marker buoy flashes from tower at end of jetty, people standing
           together w/ fishing poles, fishing. VS of champion Tom McEwan in
           kayak on rocky river w/ white water. Middle-aged w/ family at
           Thanksgiving. Carving turkey seated at table w/ family. More Tom
           kayaking. More people fishing. Titles sequence w/ infrared motion
           imaging.  Middle-aged Man w/ family, daughters & children, eating
           Thanksgiving dinner. Blond boy on first fishing trip w/ father,
           others at jetty. VS people fishing, fishing poles, rod & reels.
           Good shots of Tom McEwan wearing life jacket & helmet, kayaking in
           white water. NASA satellite launch POV of ground into space. Photos
           from Landsat of Earth. Drawing, animation of the satellite & how it
           works (taking pictures, three at a time, separate frequency bands
           to form composites).  Uses Multispectral Scanner (MSS). Pictures
           rolling in lab processing.

           EXT of Skylab. Astronaut outside Skylab. VS scientists, astronauts
           inside Skylab working, floating, connecting equipment. Great solar
           flares. More inside Skylab. VS Tom McEwan white water kayaking.
           Archival, vintage footage: boy diving in water near schooner, three
           women walking on beach in bathing suits (1920s), people playing in
           water near waterfall, couple skiing, boys jumping into river,
           swimming hole, from plank followed by obese woman (water sports,
           leisure). VS Industrial plant, smoke stacks spewing out smoke,
           refuse from plant in water. Aerial of plant in operation, pollution
           in waterway. VS water pollution, scum on top of water, large pipes
           dumping waste into major waterway, black stuff in small stream,
           clumps in waterway. Aerial shots of polluted water. Kayaker Tom
           McEwan in smooth water.

           NASA Satellite photo of the river & surrounding area. ("Light blue
           most polluted.") Researchers looking at photos, layering colors to
           image. VS of NASA photos of weather, ranges, ice & snow, silt
           patterns in rivers, oil spills, smog. NASA photo of fist occurrence
           of storm clouds forming from smoke (smoke plumes) of factories
           along shoreline. Man driving car, listening to radio weather
           report. VS blond boy & father fishing w/ others on jetty. Passing
           Coast Guard boat announces "Don't eat the fish, it may be
           poisoned." VS fisherman. Good CU two boys in black sneakers touch
           fish lying on ground w/ foot. AERIAL shoreline. NASA photo of toxic
           acid waste dumped near shore.  Fish on ground gasping for water. VS
           fishermen leaving fishing area, man in waders, brunette boy looks
           at fish on ground.

           Kayaker Tom McEwan on the Potomac River ("pollution constant threat
           to Potomac") towards Memorial Bridge, w/ Lincoln Memorial &
           Washington Monument in BG (Washington DC). Middle-aged man driving
           car in snow storm caused by pollution, people walking, signal man
           on street w/ snow plow. T/L NASA photo of Earth. More solar flares.
           HA of kayaker moving away from camera on polluted Potomac. VO:
           solar energy solution to decreasing our "careless" dependence on

fossil fuels. Very pro-environmentalist, pro-space program.
