Summary

Displays kidneys of various representatives animals, diagrams their functional components, explains movements of materials through them, and traces the evolution of excretory systems. Shows a latex-injected kidney and locates its parts. Explains the basic kidney functions through diagrams of the grasshopper and earthworm. Shows shark, pig, and frog kidneys with dorsal aorta and renal artery. Displays model of mammalian kidney stressing the nephron as its functional unit. Experiment on kidney tubule demonstrates active transport and discusses this concept and energy required for its activity. Charts evolution of animal excretory systems from funnel, to nephron, and other elaborations. Guest lecturer, Mr. Phillip Fordyce.
