Budapest, Hungary after the November 1956 Soviet invasion;
military vehicles on streets, piles of rubble, many ruins and
bombed-out / shelled buildings; VS tired political
refugees on foot and with few belongings in countryside as
they cross the border into Austria, where a pair of
Austrian sentinel soldiers greet them, one refugee man
cries at the border, a few cross border river at night;
refugees arrive by train in Holland; CUs of refugee family
in Vienna; VS refugees wait on line and apply for asylum
visas at the American embassy in Vienna; refugees arriving
and deplaning at Maguire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

Force occupation soldiers and vehicles arrive in Port Said,
Egypt and march through the city streets past crowds, some
of whom cheer and some of whom yell in disapproval;
British policemen try to hold back the crowds; VS sunken
ships in the mined waters of the Suez Canal. Gas shortage
in Paris, France: VS people pushing their stalled cars
down streets after running out of gas; cars waiting on gas
lines; closed gas station; CU gas pump inscribed in
French; gas station attendant signals to waiting cars that
there is no more gasoline.

Pompeii. [Archaeological excavation site].
07:06:00 PAINTING ON PIN-HEADS (GENOA, ITALY): VS unusual
artist Igilio Basti (sp?) in his studio, painting tiny portraits,
landscapes and the like on the heads of pins; CU the man
holding up a magnifying glass to his eye. [Oddity].
07:56:00 RELIGION - THE HOLY CRAGS OF MONTSERRAT, SPAIN:
VS a ceremonial procession of Christian pilgrims carrying a
statue of the Madonna-and-Child up the slope of Montserrat
mountain; rock climbers carry the statue all the way to
peak of a steep rock at the mountaintop.

the Bronx Zoo; a black rhinoceros in zoo pond; a giraffe
in zoo enclosure; Emperor penguins in zoo enclosure and
swimming in their pond.
00:13:14:00 A NATIONAL MONUMENT UNDERGROUND: VS a park
ranger leads a tour group through the beautiful Lehman Caves
National Monument in Nevada, filled with ornate stalactites,
stalagmites and limestone rock outcroppings; park ranger
playfully taps certain rocks to produce musical notes.
00:17:04:00 THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY: VS EXT the Central
Branch at 5th Avenue and 42nd Street, including the lion statues;
INT the entrance hall; INT a reading room; CU pages of a
Beethoven manuscript; CU New York Times newspaper headline
reporting the assassination of President Lincoln; CU a
magnifying glass is held up to a page of a rare Gutenberg
Bible; VS the card catalog room, man fills out a call slip
and hands it to clerk; call slip is sent by pneumatic tube
to the library stacks where a clerk searches for the book
and sends it upstairs in small elevator; VS main reading
room, people reading at the long tables, man picking up a
book at the delivery desk beneath the call-number
indicator sign; more EXT shots of the library, pedestrians pass in
