Obituary

Doris Jacoby, known professionally as Doris Storm, died at home on January 27th, at the age of 94. A longtime Westport resident, she and her husband Frank received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Westport Arts Awards in 2012 for their contributions to the world of film and television, and the Friends of the Westport Library Special Friend Award in 2007. Doris was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from her alma mater Brooklyn College in 2015.

Born on July 1, 1926 to Manheim and Fannie "Bobbie" Rosenzweig, Doris grew up in New York City with her older sister, Sonya. She eloped with Frank Jacoby at the age of 19, and their 66-year marriage lasted until Frank's death in 2012. The couple shared a career as pioneers during the golden age of television, with her in front of the camera and him behind the scenes, a career that included founding New York City's first public television station. They later started Jacoby/Storm Productions and traveled to over 60 countries together making educational, documentary, and corporate films, often working alongside their three sons, Doug, Bruce, and Jeff.

Her quick wit and dramatic instincts made tales from her acclaimed career the stuff of legend long before her death. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she was a violinist (having studied at Juilliard from the age of 13), gardener, knitter, sculptor, figure skater (having started taking lessons at age 73), and adoring grandmother to Alana, Maia, Greg, and Devon.
